About Lung Transplant Life

I'm Tyson, and I had my double lung transplant at 43 years old in 2025.

I was diagnosed with interstitial lung disease in 2023 when I was only 42 years old.

I've been through a lot of the same stresses that you've been through, late night internet searches, trying to find out what it all means, if there's a cure, what your future holds, and the classic "what is the life expectancy for a double lung transplant" (there's no way to tell how long any of us will live, but I know people 10, 20, and even almost 30 years post transplant!)

One of the biggest frustrations for my wife and I was that there were no dedicated online resources for lung transplant patients, by lungtransplant patients.  There's some transplant center medical documents, oftentimes 5-10 years old, news stories, the occasional youtube or tiktok journey that is usually just trying to get drama clicks and quickly runs out of content to post after the patient returns to normal life, and of course, social media where oftentimes people go only to complain or sadly, purposely troll and give awful and harmful advice.

I wanted to change that, so I created a Youtube and TikTok channel that was first called Lung Transplant Experience, which when I created this website I changed to Lung Transplant Life.

I did serve 13 years in the United States military, first as a combat medic with the Army National Guard, then as a medic with the Air National Guard. I have a good understanding of basic medicine, terminology, science, and I have always enjoyed taking higher level subjects and teaching them in a way that the average person can comprehend without hours/days/weeks of training.

We don't need to become physicians, but a little extra comprehension of our disease and how to live life with a lung transplant can really help to prevent complications and rejection.
